Romantic Weekend Getaways From the Foothills of Southern Cali

Posted by Jason Nevaril on Mar 22, 2018

Valentine’s Day is less than a week away! And while there are plenty of restaurants, spas, parks, and fun activities throughout the Foothills to celebrate the holiday of love, there are even more weekend getaway trips just a short drive away! Find some of the best romantic escapes around the Foothills to spend a blissful weekend with your sweetie!

Laguna Beach

Beautiful beaches, breathtaking landscapes, romantic inns and spas… Spend the day on the white sand or surfing in the waves, get a massage at a local spa in the afternoon, then browse the local shops and art galleries. Take your honey to a romantic restaurant in the evening. Located about an hour away from the Foothills, it can be a day trip or a casual weekend getaway.

Newport Beach

Newport Beach is a charming little seaside getaway town filled with shops, restaurants, hotels and spas, and plenty of leisure activities. You can visit Balboa Island, stroll through downtown, take a walk on the Newport Beach Pier, find a romantic restaurant for wine and dinner, or simply relax on the beach. Again, just an hour away from the Foothills, it can be a day trip or a weekend excursion.

Santa Monica

Though it’s just an hour away from the Foothills, Santa Monica offers so much to do—and so many nearby attractions and cities to explore, that you’re probably better off making it a weekend trip. Relax on the white-sand beaches, explore the Santa Monica Pier and Aquarium, stroll the Ocean Front Walk, explore the shops of Downtown, dine on Santa Monica Boulevard, or even make a short trip to nearby Venice or Malibu.

Big Bear Lake

Give your romance a more adventurous country setting by making a weekend excursion to Big Bear Lake in the San Bernardino National Forest. It’s just a 1.5 hour drive, but it’s still a world of mountains, forest, hiking, boating, swimming, and exploration away from the hustle-and-bustle of the LA metro area. You can even find romantic lodging at Big Bear Lake, which features guest suites complete with fireplaces, spa bathtubs, and wet bars.

Idyllwild & The San Jacinto Mountains

Another 1.5 hour drive, the mountain town of Idyllwild is another weekend getaway of relaxation and adventure in a charming rustic country setting. You can spend the day relaxing in the shade of leafy green trees or find a trail to take on the San Jacinto Mountains for some truly astonishing views.

Palm Springs

There’s a reason Palm Springs is one of America’s favorite vacation resort cities; there’s something for every type of vacationer here. World-class spas, renowned golf courses, outstanding tennis centers, plenty of nightlife and live entertainment, shopping and dining to meet all styles and tastes, and even endless outdoor activities in the nearby San Jacinto Mountains. It’s just 1.5 hours to a weekend you’ll never want to leave!

Los Angeles

It’s right down the street, practically in your own backyard. You might even work in LA—but how often do you really take the time to enjoy it? There are a ton of places to explore, like Koreatown or Chinatown, Beverly Hills, the famed Hollywood, or even the hip and trendy NoHo Arts District. Catch a show downtown, visit Dodger Stadium, dine romantically at one of LA’s top restaurants (like 71Above, Cliff’s Edge, Craft, Melisse, or Sotto), investigate the LA County Museum of Art… or so, so much more.
